It's Dispossessed of Justice, Atiku Rejects Tribunal Judgment.
Previous VP Atiku Abubakar on Thursday dismissed the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal judgment that confirmed the triumph of President Bola Tinubu in the February 25, 2023, presidential election.
He said the tribunal judgment neglected to reestablish certainty.
"However the judgment of yesterday is regarded, it is a judgment I wouldn't acknowledge. I wouldn't acknowledge the judgment since I accept it is deprived of significant justice," Atiku said while tending to a world press conference at the PDP base camp in Abuja.
News reports show the tribunal tossed out the instance of Atiku, who is the Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate, and his Labour Party partner, Peter Obi, and maintained the triumph of Tinubu.
Both Atiku and Obi dismissed Wednesday's judgment of the tribunal attesting the election of Tinubu. The Legal Adviser to the Labour Party, Kehinde Edun, promised to challenge the judgment at the Supreme Court.
Likewise, Atiku's Lead Counsel, Chris Uche, SAN, said he had gotten guidelines from his client to document an appeal at the Supreme Court.
He said "The judgment has been conveyed however we have not gotten justice. Fortunately, the law has given us influence to go on appeal to the Supreme Court. We have guidelines from our clients to go to the Supreme Court. The battle proceeds."
The PEPT which started sitting at 9.40am at the Court of Appeal, Abuja, decided that the request filed by Atiku and Obi and their gatherings had no legitimacy and collectively maintained Tinubu's electoral triumph in the February 25 presidential election.
The five-part board alternated to excuse the petitions introduced by Atiku and Obi against the statement of Tinubu as the victor of the presidential election by the Independent National Electoral Commission on Walk 1, 2023.
Yet, tending to a press conference on Thursday, Atiku said he was not new to legal fight and he would keep on investigating the judiciary for rest.
"Nonetheless, the failure in the decision of the court can never annihilate my trust in the judiciary.
"Subsequently, I have requested that my attorneys actuate my constitutionally ensured freedoms of appeal to the higher court, which in this occurrence, is the Supreme Court of Nigeria."
He added, "My choice to go to court is moored in my conviction that the court is the safe-haven of justice. The excursion of my political vocation, as you most likely are aware, holds such a great amount to the boldness and dauntless choices of our judiciary.
"Without a doubt, I'm no more bizarre to legal fights, and I can say that I have a fair thought of how the court framework functions. All through my vocation as a legislator, I have been a contender, and I should say that I have tracked down the judiciary as a commendable support point to lay on chasing justice.
"The last presidential election in our nation and how it was overseen by the electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission, abandons unenviable points of reference, which I accept the courts have an obligation to change.
"Our benefits in guaranteeing straightforward elections through the arrangement of innovation was vigorously undermined by INEC in the manner it dealt with the last presidential election, and I'm worried about the possibility that that the judgment of the court as delivered by the Presidential Election Appeal Tribunal yesterday, neglected to reestablish trust in our fantasies of free and fair elections absent any trace of human controls.
"As I said toward the start of this legal fight when I trained my attorneys to document my request testing the result of the presidential election, my definitive objective in this pursuit is to guarantee that democracy is additionally reinforced through the standards and cycles of fair hearing."
