Nigeria defeats Germany to win Bronze Medal in the U-17 World Championships
Nigeria's U-17 women's team, the Flamingoes, defeated Germany 3-2 on penalties to win the bronze medal in the present FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup.
Opeyemi Ajakaye, a talisman for the Flamingoes, scored the game's first goal after Germany's initial goal had been disallowed.
Nigeria made every attempt to increase their advantage before halftime, but the Flamingoes will have a tight 1-0 lead at the break.
The Flamingoes had a comfortable three-goal advantage after 62 minutes after substitute Etim Edidiong had scored the third and Aminat Bello had scored Nigeria's second goal.
However, that complacency came back to haunt them as the Germans staged an incredible comeback to force a penalty shootout.
The Flamingoes went on to defeat the Germans 3-2 in the shootout to complete their victory.
The third-place performance by Bankole Olowookere's team is Nigeria's greatest result in the competition's history.
