Movement of Airlines to New International Terminal at MMIA to begin right away - FAAN
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has guided airlines to handle their passengers through the new international terminal of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos.
In accordance with the mandate of the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, FAAN in an explanation endorsed by its Chief, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Abdullahi Yakubu-Funtua, said that the sped up movement to the new international terminal at MMIA is important because of the fire occurrence that happened at the international terminal 1, known as old terminal, on Wednesday, September 6.
Keyamo, during a visit to the Lagos airport had coordinated FAAN to move airlines to the new international terminal for the closure of the old terminal by first October, 2023 with the end goal of further developing passenger experience and for all out update of the old office.
The Minister said that the new terminal was being underutilized while the framework at the old terminal had become outdated, adding that FAAAN should expand the use of the new design.
"We ought to move and utilize the new terminal. The new terminal is underutilized. We burned through huge amount of cash building it and we need to utilize it. The old terminal is an all out blemish.
"Since I came into office, I have heard objections upon grievances. The focal cool isn't working, the merry go rounds are not working, they separated regularly and the methodology into the airport is rank, it is absolutely unpleasant to individuals coming into Nigeria and that is the doorway to Nigeria," the Minister had said.
FAAN in its proclamation on migration said, "We mean to make this development as consistent as could be expected yet we appeal to all voyagers to kindly be at the airport adequately early to finish your registration customs on time all together not to fail to catch your planes."
