Varane, a defender for Manchester United, is adamant that France won't "slip into trap" of complacency while playing Morocco in World Cup semifinal.
Raphael Varane congratulated Morocco for making it to the World Cup semifinals and cautioned France not to enter the match with too much confidence.
France is the clear favorite to defeat Morocco.
It's simple to enter a game overconfident.
Varane thinks that's up to the leaders to stop.
In this World Cup more than most others, the nation that was thought to be the underdog won against the more powerful ones. Japan defeated both Germany and Spain, Morocco eliminated La Roja and Portugal in the round of 16, and on Saturday, Croatia found it in themselves to eliminate Brazil from the competition.
Varane is anxious to prevent the alleged "better" sides from entering the games with the incorrect mindset.
The defender remarked during a pre-game press conference: "We have enough experience to avoid falling into this trap (of being over confident). They have arrived at that point for a purpose. It will be really challenging since they defend so effectively. As the team's leaders, it is our responsibility to get everyone ready for a new war.
"This is a World Cup semifinal; if you want to earn a spot in the final, you must give all you've got until the very end. They have a collective force and have displayed performances that have given them a lot of confidence as they write Moroccan football history.
Many people believe that France will win the World Cup on Sunday, making them the first team since Brazil in 1958 and 1962 to win back the coveted trophy in football. With the exception of West Ham defender Nayef Aguerd's own goal in the 2-1 victory against Canada, Morocco hasn't lost a game at the tournament and hasn't let a goal scored by an opponent.
Varane, of Manchester United, will almost probably start despite it being unknown who will join him at the defense. Varane will be responsible for keeping players like Youssef En-Nesyri quiet as France looks to win a second World Cup.
