Commonwealth Countries Not Making Changes After the Queen's Demise - Pandor |
Questions have been raised about whether some countries will leave the Commonwealth of Nations alliance since the Queen has passed on.
Bongani Bingwa spoke to South Africa’s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Dr Naledi Pandor, about the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.
Pandor is of the view that there won’t be a sudden change in that frame of mind of Nations after the passing of the British monarch.
Pandor is the latest African pioneer to honor the late British monarch.
Countries including South Africa, Egypt, Sudan, Kenya, Uganda, South Africa, Gambia, Sierra Leone, northwestern Somalia, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana, Nigeria, Ghana and Malawi were previously under the British Empire.
Pandor believes that numerous countries were still associated with the Commonwealth.
“I figure the Commonwealth of Nations will keep on being the society of normal language and relationship to the Assembled Realm.” – Naledi Pandor, Minister – International Relations and Cooperation.
Ireland left the Commonwealth in April 1949 and Zimbabwe continued in December 2003.
“It is to a greater degree a club as opposed to a political organ using any and all means.” – Naledi Pandor, Minister – International relations and cooperation
Lord Charles III is the new British monarch, which signals the beginning of another period.
